Decadent Chocolate Cake Recipe

As requested by Stephanie & Audrey...

Decadent Chocolate Cake

Ingredients for cake:
1 cup water
3 oz unsweetened chocolate
1 stick sweet butter or margarine
1 tsp vanilla
2 cups sugar
2 egg yolks
1/2 cup sour cream
1 tsp baking soda
2 cups less 2 Tbs all-purpose flour
1 tsp baking powder
2 egg whites

Frosting:
2 Tbs butter or margarine
3/4 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
6 Tbs heavy cream (or evaporated canned milk)
1-1/4 cup confectioner sugar (sifted)
1 tsp vanilla

Cake: Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease and flour a bundt pan. Knock out excess flour. Pour boiling water over chocolate and butter. Let stand until melted. Stir in vanilla and sugar. Whisk in egg yolks, blending well. Mix together sour cream and baking soda, then whisk into batter. Add flour and baking powder and mix well. Beat egg whites until stiff but not dry. Stir 1/4 into batter thoroughly, then scoop remaining egg whites on top of batter and fold in gently. Pour batter into prepared pan. Set in middle of rack in the oven and bake for 40 to 45 minutes, or until edges pull away from sides of pan and cake tester inserted into center comes out clean. Cool in pan for 10 minutes. Unmold and cool completely before frosting.

Frosting: Place all ingredients in a sauce pan over low heat. Whisk until smooth, adding more sugar if needed.

**It seems kind of complicated, but it is so worth it. The cake is moist, the frosting is fudgy and the combination is incredible!**
One tip: Use the Pam baking spray with flour already in it (instead of greasing and flouring) in the bundt pan. It works so well. I used to have the cake stick in spots when I tried to get it out, but not with this spray!

Thank you so much! It looks deeeelicious! I was thinking it would be fun to start an Amber Rose recipe blog--my friend calls hers Chicks 'n Dip. Anyway, thanks again. Can't wait to try it!

OH WOW!!! That sounds divine!!! I just might have to break my diet and make it sometime soon! And I like Audrey's idea about the recipe blog...that would be a lot of fun! (I guess if I ever get the ward cook book typed up though, we'll have that!)
